Thankyou :) I'll go with 1 and 3 then. So the front loop would be (in this case) the outer loop and the back the inner? Thanks for your help - there is only so much books can teach me before I need to ask someone :P

Yes, that would be correct. Usually when a pattern has you do something like this, the other loop(s) will be used for an add-on piece.
