Cross-stitch ironing?

Hey peeps. I've noticed at the end of my projects that my cross-stitching is often warped and "bubbly" (for lack of a better word? If you're a cross-stitcher I figure you know what I'm talking about).

Do you typically iron your project before you frame it? I've done probably about five projects that other people own now, and I've always just hoped the frame had glass that would mash it down and make the "warpiness" seem less warped. But are cross-stitches safe to iron? Is this recommended? Do you have better ideas/suggestions?

I always wash and iron my cross stitches before framing them

After I've washed the stitching, I roll it up in a clean towel and pat it a little. When it comes out of the towel it's still damp - this is the time to iron. I place it right side down on another clean towel (I don't have an ironing board lol) and I press the entire thing. I usually have the iron on a cotton or silk setting (I think cotton is 3 dots and silk is 2 on my iron). When I'm happy with the pressing, I basically go away and leave it to completely dry before framing it.
