Connection between crochet and knitting ?

Post by Sheetaaa »

Hello!

Now that I can complete crochet patterns in English (THANKS TO YOU ALL, I must say!), I have a brand new frustration with... knitting patterns.

To be precise, I'd like to do these fingerless gloves, the ones from Doctor Who that Rose wears: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library ... ss-mittens

And yeah, it's knitting... I'd like to learn one method at a time, so here's my question : is there some kind of translation of the stitches you do in knitting ? Or maybe... do you possess a pattern of Rose's gloves ? I tried really hard to find one on Google but it seems like it doesn't exist.

I'm sure there is a way you could interpret a knitting pattern and turn it into crochet, but it would definitely be outside my capability right now. What I do feel sure of is that you wouldn't be able to get a 'true' representation by using crochet - that is, the end product would look noticeably different because the stitches are not really similar at all. It depends on how much it matters to you to get it to look the same as the knitting pattern, I guess. Maybe someone with more experience will weigh in...

How brave are you feeling? I've found a couple of 'cabled' wristwarmers that are crocheted.

Here is the first http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library ... er-pattern which doesn't look much like the pattern you posted, but the cables are made as you go.

The second option is 'fake' cables, found here http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library ... rm-warmers which looks more like the pattern you posted.

I can't read crochet patterns, so I have no idea how easy/difficult they are. As no_need said, there may be a way to interpret a knitted pattern to a crochet pattern, but I have no idea how you would do it!

As lcockitt said, go to ravelry.com

The community there is wonderfully helpful and lovely and always willing to answer questions. They also have tons of info and tutorials etc. They're good for crochet too, but knitting is their THANG.
