decorating tables with images

I just got a large piece of plywood that I am trying to decorate with pictures. What is the best way to apply the pictures and then seal them? I was thinking of using modge podge, and then a spray on sealant but i wasn't sure if that would work. The wood with going to be used as a table top for gaming so it needs to be waterproof. I would hate for the pictures to get wet and bleed. Any help would be awesome!

expensive option- glass

Less expensive- clear PVC cover

I'd probably go for the clear PVC as it would be easy to put on/take off and can be swapped out easily if you want to change pictures or some such.

^ This. Though if you really wanted the pictures to be adhered to the table, I can talk to my husband. He's a wood worker and might have an opinion as to what you should do to seal them in. Poly would be the best, I would think, but not sure how to stick them to the table first...

I finally figured out how to go about this. I used modge podge to adhere and do a minor seal with the images.
Then I used polycrylic to seal it against the elements. Thanks for the suggestions, since this table will be store when not in use i needed something that would stick. I'll post pics later!
