Coasters?

Post by Jack Lias »

I've forgotten if I've asked anyone this before, and I didn't find anything in this forum when I did a search for it, but I was wondering... how do you go about creating your coasters-with-stitches? I was planning to do some stitches and turn them into coasters, but I couldn't find blank plastic coasters anywhere. Thoughts?

I made a set for my bf out of regular 7ct plastic canvas. All I did was figure out the size I wanted them to be, then made the patterns, cut out the pieces, sew them up, and put some sticky felt on the backs of them. If you look at my deviant account, you can see what I did.

Save the Stitches Blackwork
Frederick the Literate Kit

Are these what you're looking for? There are different shapes and you just slide your needlework into them.

If your a fan of plastic canvas and still want higher detail, 14ct plastic canvas works great.
Here are a few I made recently:

I like the plastic canvas ones (and those are super cute!) but I tend to want something that will hold up and be cleanable... You used to be able to buy these nice heavy-duty plastic/glass coasters that you could "insert your own art" into. I haven't seen them in craft supply stores in years though.
A quick Google search tells me that you can still order them though! The first link looks like the best quality :) hope that helps.

i've seen the 6 sided ones at walmart (canada), but the online ones are probably much cheaper even with shipping.

Yes, online would be much cheaper (before shipping costs anyway). At Wal-Mart they're about $5.50 each with tax. They are really great, but I find the cork backing unsticks really easily so if you go this route invest in a glue gun too. :)
