Interesting. My fiancé has always joked that I'm the "real man of the house" cause all the power tools in the house are mine.

My mom is the fix-it-upper in our family (not including my husband). For Mother's Day one year, she got a cordless power drill. And she's also the one who is re-doing their wooden floors. (Stripping them, sanding them down, fixing if need be, then re-applying whatever it is they put on there). My dad use to change the oil in the cars, but now that they're a bit more complex, he takes them somewhere to get them done.

My house is a man-free zone most of the time so I have to do all those "man" things myself anyway. I love to do things for myself, without having to ask a dude for help. And even if my fella was in the house I'd still be doing them, because he has absolutely no clue about stuff.

Also, yay for men with sewing skills!

I renewed my "man-card" last week by teaching myself how to change my brake pads and rotors.
It's amazing what a $1000 quote can convince you to learn.

My guy's not useless, but I'm better and I have a bit of thing about having all the right tools for a job.. He's particularly useful at soaking up the attention of homeware store staff leaving me free to find what I'm looking for in peace! [emoji12]

My mother had her car stop working before I was born and had to wait a few weeks for her brother to come check it out. After she found out how SIMPLE it was, she took a mechanics course, vowing not to wait on a man for that again. This was at a time when there was no women's washrooms in that section, so she walked into the men's and told them this was her block, too. (My mother is a bit of a stereotypically sassy black woman. :3)

I can do the "manly" fixer things. My husband tends to just jump on them and I like that he does because it's sweet that he cares enough to, but my ex had no steady "father" figure and his mother was "princess", so no one taught him much and I fixed most things in the house.
