Re: March Madness
Wow Sprite Stitch is really into charity quilts suddenly. I love the idea of doing something for Japan. Maybe we can make it part of the charity quilt thread that is already going on in the challenge section, just rush the deadline for one or two quilts a bit. Or we could sell our own projects and collect the money into one big donation.

Isn't the Charity Quilt in the challenge section for Child's Play? A noble cause, but not the one that this idea is for.
I vote for a couple of children's quilts, and make them functional as well as beautiful.
Pokemon for Japan sounds better than Nintendo for Japan yeah?
An online auction (like at ebay) would be good because people from all over the world could bid.
The only problem I see is getting the needed publicity, and I have no idea how to do that.

Re: March Madness
I have a couple of contacts on a site called Online Gaming radio. since they're in America, it would spread news a lot faster if i asked them to mention it a few times. Since they have a load of listeners and also various people from Sony on there, i know it's not nintendo, but they're all in Japan kinda, so every little helps right? Also i have contacts for radio stations here in England if you think it'll help
also is it going to be just 1 generation or every generation of pokemon? if the latter, we have a LOT to choose from! we could perhaps choose a certain type eg; fire, grass, water... and depending on the amount of people, we could just maybe do a couple from each type? Or compile a list of the most popular (which for me personaly will be gen 1 and 2) and work from there where everyone chooses a couple of pokemon each.
are the Squares going to be as big as the Other charity one? if so, perhaps we could chose an evolution and group them together into the square?
Just a few questions for people to ponder on. As for designating a person... not a clue who... and I vote for a couple of childrens quilts and see where we go from there. Not a clue what the size of that will be! D:

Current Projects:
Link and Triforce Square = 56% complete.
Kanto Map = 60% complete.
Hetalia sprites for Xmas presents. Other projects will be put on hold until these are done. Shouldn't take long though. :3

Re: March Madness
Ok - when the time comes, I nominate LilliumRyn as our Pokemon For Japan Quilt Publicist.
Would a 70x70 14 count Aida fabric work?
The background would need to be filled in. (I'm borrowing from the Child's Play Quilt idea.)
I vote that each square has the evolutions on it - so Bulbasaur, Ivysaur and Venusaur would all be in one square.
The filler would be killer though.

Re: March Madness
Oh~!
I really like this idea.
A pokemon quilt would totally sell, too.
I'd even be willing to stitch up some pokemon, myself. As long as someone can help me with a pattern if I can't do it on my own.
Aslo; not only that, but maybe in the middle of the quilt, have the pokemon logo?
Or incorperate head shots of the main characters in the series thrown out here and there? Just another idea.

Re: March Madness
love the children quilts idea. And the pokemon logo idea sounds great too, especially as the 15th anniversary of pokemon has just past.
Another idea with the evolutions idea - Maybe we could have rows of the quilts dedicated to the different generations of pokemon. For example, say the quilt had 5 rows of patches. The top row could be just on generation 1 pokemon (Starting with the gen. 1 starter pokemon), second row dedicated to gen. 2 pokemon, starting with the gen. 2 starter pokemon etc...
And maybe throw in the gym leaders/elite four/champion (of that Generation) on a patch at the end of each row (or maybe a row for each?)
Also, maybe a different background depending on the type of pokemon it is (example: water type - ocean/sea floor background)

Re: March Madness
Oh, that sounds like a cool idea for the backgrounds!
I know I'm already excited to get started on a patch for this.

Re: March Madness
If we're doing rectangular quilts then they will need to have length not width. If we're doing a square blanket then it's equal.
My son has a kid's blanket that is 4ft by 4ft (approx 117cm x 117cm) and it's perfect for small children (he's 4).
So if we did 5 inch patches (which in aida fabric is 70x70 stitches in 14 count) that's about 8 squares per row, which means the quilt would be about 64 squares per quilt. That would leave 6 inches for fabric between the squares and around the edge.
I had an idea. What if (and this might scare people) we did one quilt per generation? Each quilt would include the Pokemon Logo, all the Pokemon of that generation, the Gym Leaders and the Elite Four/Champion. I have most of the sprites for the Pokemon on my computer and counted it out - for Gen I some of the single no evolution Pokemon (like Farfetch'd and Khangaskhan) would have to double up. Actually I'm pretty sure lots of single-no-evos would.
If you guys would like I could come up with a map of the quilt proposals.
One thing - each patch you make should have your initials, name, or handle on them. So we can see in the end who made what and so on.
I just don't quilt. I know people who do. I suppose I could handle that.
I had two projects going, I had to cancel one, and then the other got canceled on me (it was a collaboration), so I find myself free to pursue this project.

Re: March Madness
I do like the idea of a quilt for each gen (even though it does scare me!), I'd be happy to help plan out the squares (i'm pretty sure i've got almost all the sprites from 4th and 5th gen.)
Just one thing - Will they all fit?
I made up a few to get an idea of how it could work
