Anchor/DMC .../Hexadecimal?

Post by miss_charlie »

Am I the only one who's wished threads were sorted by hexadecimal colour codes? I look at the Anchor/DMC conversion charts, and in my mind, I still automatically connect "Black" with "#000000", "White" with "#FFFFFF" and so on, even though it's been years since I've needed to know codes for colours.

Anyone else feel this?

The colors would still depend on the lighting conditions, though...

Maybe retailers could start putting lightbox displays with the floss. It'd be a black box open on one end. You stick your floss in and select a lighting: daylight, 60-watt CFL soft white, et cetera, and the box will be illuminated on the inside with the selected light, allowing you to check your potential floss purchase in the condition under which it will be displayed.

Using Pantone would be nice as it's a very established and... comprehensive color index. Sadly the cotton swatch library is like $6795 USD.

I don't think that an RGB sort of the colours would be very useful.
Given a strong red, a light purple and a softer red you would get this
FF0000 Red
FF80FF Purple
F00F0F softer red

A HSV sort would be better I think.

I could make you a RGB sorted DMC or Anchor chart if you really wanted one.
