Dr Seuss

Post by filingprincess »

Might be a long shot but I thought I'd try here.

I would like this image to be converted into cross stitch for my new baby nephew. His nursery is Dr. Seuss themed and I think it would be a wonderful addition to the room.

Any help/ideas would be great!

Do you have a aida count/size/number of colors preference?

colors would be just black, white and red.

aida count- i don't have a preference.. i would like the frame to be 8 x 10 inches- if possible.. i know the smaller it would be, less detailed it would be... just don't want it to be in a weird size, making it harder for me to frame it.

I keep trying to work on this but I'm really new at pattern making and not making any progress at all with clean-up. Anyone else want to take a gander at this?

how about just back stitching? I'm looking at the image- I'm thinking maybe the red part of the hat and the bow tie would be cross stitched.. while the rest of the image would be all back stitched?

I've never worked with linen... would that look better?

Hrm, I think I've got it (a little bit of clean-up on the letters to do). I think the trouble was trying to fit a square into a rectangle. I looked up common frame sizes and they mentioned that while more difficult to find than rectangular frames, square ones could be found in three sizes. I chose the biggest size (to keep the most detail) to do the pic and it's almost perfect. I set it to be 12x12 on 18-count aida. Of course, you can use higher count to get it to be smaller if you need.

that looks fantastic! May I ask which program did you use?

I'm off to a craft store today to get some material to start this!

Many many thanks! :D

I used the free version of KG-Stitch (http://www.iktsoft.net/kgchart-en/kgchart/download/). The colors don't always match up from the program and what they look like irl so you have to keep that in mind when messing with it. There's a thread around here somewhere with a pic of all the threads as they look for real so you can compare and it is incredibly useful! I did have to basically redo all the letters on this because they came up all weird but Cat was pretty close (just a tweak or two). You can also backstitch the lines on his hat, mouth, eyes, etc if you want just remember to put a white or red stitch there to fill in. Unfortunately, the programs don't do backstitching very well.

Also, as for your linen question...I've never worked with it so I don't know how difficult it is to work with. :)

You are quite welcome and enjoy your stitching! It's a cute pattern, I might have to stitch it up myself for my sister-in-law's on the way babe. :D
