Paper Mario placemats

Hello everybody!

I wanted to post the results of my first attempt at working with waste canvas. I used cheap 50 cent Ikea placemats because I was afraid of messing something up, but the final stitching doesn't look bad at all! I will definitely repeat the experiment with other materials.

Unfortunately, the patterns I made from the sprites got lost in my last computer backup (as well as the floss color list), so I can't post them. :cray: If anyone is interested, however, I can post the original sprites that will have to be re-sized and re-worked a little bit.

Too cute! Paper Mario is by far my favorite Mario game. I'd love to have these on my dining room table. :D

Those look great! Did you use the pull waste canvas or the dissolve able kind?

I don't know if there are different kinds of waste canvas, I've only seen one kind at JoAnn and on the crafts website where I shop. It's the Charles Crafts 14c and it sounds like a combination of the two you just mentioned. The way it works is that you soak the stitching in water once you're done with it. The waste canvas gets soft and the glue in between its threads dissolves, then you can pull the strings while they're still wet. Overall, it works well!

Now I'm looking for black placemats to stitch PacMan and the ghosts on them
