Super Mario World Map WIP

I posted in another thread about this - but I dyed the aida a couple of weeks ago. Liquid Rit "evening blue" dye would probably be the perfect color. However, I used a packet of Dyson "ocean blue" powder dye and it came out this purple/blue color. So we tried washing some of it out in the tub and dyed "evening blue" over it. It turned out darker because of doing both, but at least it turned out more blue than purple because of the Rit.

I'm considering getting another piece and just trying the Rit dye. I'll be able to use the piece I dyed no matter what, but I'm kind of a perfectionist when it comes to these things. It will drive me crazy to have the blue so dark. But I'm going to stitch a little bit on it and see how it looks before I decide.

I bought some Evening Blue over the weekend, I'll try it this afternoon and post pics!

I hope it turns out for you, FunkyMonkey!! And if it does, I'll buy another aida cloth and re-dye using the Rit, too. I'll cut up the one I did and use it for the two navy mini maps...I'll get use out of it either way!!

Ok, I dyed a test strip with Evening Blue, and I think it's still too dark.

For comparison, I held it up next to the aqua Epic Mario, and the blue thread that the pattern called for originally. I would say the desired color is somewhere between the two, but closer to Aqua. I have one more color of dye to try, a Tulip liquid Light Blue. I am hopeful... the color indicated on the bottle is an exact match to the thread. I'll try that one tomorrow.

Oooh! Where did you find that liquid Tulip, FunkyMonkey? I wonder if you can buy it online?

Edit: After a quick online search, I found this place where you can buy the Tulip liquid dye. The light blue is SKU 27871.

I'm in. I'm going to start with the Star Road map. I'm at work right now (heh heh heh...) so I can't do anything but print the patterns until I get home in the morning. I think I'll be doing all of these on 28 or 32 ct fabric, depending on what I can get at Michael's.

I stitched a test patch on my sample dyed strip... looks good! I won't be able to start this for a while, but it makes me happy to know it's ready to go.
