Here was the quilt:

If you don't know how to do applique, then I can't teach you that over the computer. If you live near Maryland I could show you in person. ;) If you do know how to applique, then here is how I put it together.

Materials -
3 yards of background Fabric (fabric a)
2 yards of lettering Fabric (fabric b)
1/2 yard or 2 fat quarters of cake icing fabric (fabric c)
1/2 yard or 2 fat quarters of cake fabric (fabric d)
White fabric for whipped cream
Red Fabric for Cherry

I used double sided applique paper. Single sided would not work for this quilt. Don't forget to use applique paper for lettering and cake pieces.

Cut out a large piece of fabric a, about a yard and a half
Lettering- http://www.free-quilt-patterns.net/cate ... habet.html I used the Quilting one. Cut your letters out of fabric b. Cake Picture -

Blow the cake image up to your desired size (I think I made mine fit as large as I could on a piece of paper).

For the cake, first use fabric c for the entire size of the cake (except the whipped cream and cherry). Then use fabric d to cut out the small strips of cake. Use the white and red fabrics to make your cherry and whipped cream (I did the cherry first, then made the whipped cream based on the cherry).

Lay the letters and the cake pieces on the background until you have them placed where you think they look best then pin the cake and letter in place.

Applique the cake and letters. Add the cherry and whip cream and applique those.

Cut the background fabric to your desired finish size (plus 1/4 inch for border sewing). You can use the cut off pieces for the border and binding.

The first border is a 1 1/2 inch (so cut 2 inches) border made of the lettering fabric.
The second border is the cake fabric, cake icing fabric, and background fabric in 1 inch by 3 inch strips (so cut 1 1/2 inch by 3 1/2 inch strips).
The corners are the lettering fabric that are 3x3 (so cut 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 inch)
Then another border or the lettering fabric of 1 1/2 inch (so cut 2 inches).
I used the background fabric for binding.

There should be some fabric leftover. I wasn't sure exactly how much fabric I used.

Hopefully this helps!!

If you make one, just please credit me with the pattern.
