Cross Stitch Meet Crochet WIP

Post by Mini_Ryuk »

Hello! I’m new to the site but not to crafting. I’m hoping that posting my progress will help motivate me to complete it. I finished the first Portal game in one night. Me! And the friend who’s apartment I was playing at is now my fiancé. So, to honor Portal as something that brought me closer to my tawoo wuv and as the first game I’ve finished, I’ve decided to make a bag. I found a pattern (sort of) for the Companion Cube, like a year ago. I had the supplies for it but I never got around to working it. I’m using Tunisian crochet since it’s easy to do color change with. That’s one side. The other side: I’ve got some black material, waste canvas, and the approximate color of the text in the ending song Still Alive and I’m MOSTLY not afraid to use them! To give myself plenty of room for the inside I’m adding the level guides to the sides and handle. I’ve got some good sturdy curtains I was going to junk before deciding to give them new life (zombies!) as a lining for something. I’d like to thank Laialda and bikyclist for the level guide patterns and how to open a sth file. I started this about two days ago but I didn’t think about sewing it all together. My poor Companion Cube would have been shrunk and wouldn’t have fit the back if I’d left it as is, so I had to rip it and add a few extra rows to each side in my pattern (not the pattern I posted, the one I'm marking up). Luckily I only had three rows so it wasn’t all that bad. I restarted it yesterday, and didn’t have much time to work on it so it’s small right now. You can't see it all that well in the pictures but I have gotten into the color change. It will pop more once I get further and the #*$& thing stops rolling.

Edit: the pictures I posted were WAY too big. I've done a little more and am now about 1/5 of the way done with the crochet portion. I've decided to turn this into a messagenger bag. I'm still going to have the Companion Cube and Still Alive cross stitch on another panel. The last panel will have the level guides and the strap will have The Cake Is A Lie all over it. But, I'm not sure where I want to place the panels. Any ideas as to what should be the front, back, and flap?

Update: I finished the heart, but because of school and preparing for school I haven't had much time for it. I don't have any pictures mainly because it's a pain to take the memory card out of my phone, put it in my computer, transfer the pictures, crop them, then post them. I've been tweaking how I want the finished product to look. Right now I'm thinking that I want it a little wider than tall. I already know I will be sewing it, so I'll just add something beside the cube, most likely Rest In Peace or Your companion cube will never threaten to stab you. I've got another project I want to make too, but it's very small. I want to make a coin purse, literally a coin purse. I've got a picture of the pixels in the coins in Super Mario Brothers. I mainly want to make it so I can make bad jokes. But this won't be started until after I finish the bag.
