Raccoon Mario DVD/game cases

Post by netlatnu »

I'm trying to save some space on our bookshelves, so I bought some slim DVD cases for our video game collection. I thought it would be fun and add a little uniformity to the collection to have a pixel image cross the spines of the individual cases. The following is a sample of what I have done:

I like the way it looks, and for my final version I will be using color, but I can't really think of what other sprites to use for these cases. I'm thinking about having about four square shelves worth of cases, one for my gamecube collection, one for my Wii collection, one for my PS3 collection, and one for my PS1/PS2/Xbox collection. I like doing Nintendo related 8-bit images, especially since the height of the cases only allows for about 35 pixels, but am not sure if it would be appropriate to use Nintendo sprites for non-Nintendo game cases. Maybe I'm just worrying too much about that. Maybe a nice "Mario through the Ages" would work. It's been done a lot, but my friends don't know that.

I like the Mario thru the Ages idea, but I understand the reluctance for non-Nintendo systems. However, I think all games owe homage to Mario :) Please be sure to post a finished pic!!!!

Well, I'm done with my first color set of game cases, and I think things turned out well. I used Yoshi's Island, one of the most beautiful games ever:

Are you doing this through an Excel spreadsheet? Also, what brand/type of cases are you using? Just contemplating getting things organized :)
