Angry Birds Amigurumi

Post by bikyclist »

I've been swamped with uni and no time for craft, but I finally got back in the amigurumi making spirit, starting with some Angry Birds!

Used the images floating the net around for ideas on how to make my own; they are so easy to make! (Start with a ball, and add on various accessories..) I think that everyone I know who likes Angry Birds will be getting a pig or a bird as a present for the next few months :)
Its so good to craft again, I'd forgotten how much I love making things!

I don't have enough time to make all the things I want for myself, let alone enough time to make things to sell online! Maybe I'll look into making various little things to sell once I'm not a time-poor student. :)

I just looked around ravelry.com for some patterns I wanted to try, and I started with this one cos it was cute and easy: http://bittersweetblog.wordpress.com/20 ... a-feather/ and I watched youtube clips for how to do the different stitches (magic ring and single crochet, increasing and decreasing) and the rest I just kinda went along with until it made sense! Its so easy once you get the hang of it!

Oh cool :) I didn't think of looking on Ravelry, I just got an account there since I'm learning to knit. I will have to check it out! Ahh love the internet, so full of free information!

Also I found this tutorial. I'll have to try it out and see if it's good for a beginner like me: http://nerdigurumi.com/2010/08/beginner ... ttern.html

Anyway- isn't this thing that person made freakin' awesome??: http://nerdigurumi.com/2010/08/legend-o ... y-set.html

I don't actually have the pattern, I just made it up as I went along, but I'll describe what I did do if that helps?

The bodies are basic circles built from the magic ring of 6 sc up until it is 42 sc around (took about 8-9 rows if I remember correctly), the pigs ears and the birds feathers and tail are all magic rings with 6 sc, then sc2 in each of those six so you have 12 sc in the row, and sc in each of those until they are the right length.
The beak is a magic ring of 4 sc, then sc2 in each to get 8 and stitch until the right proportion.
The eyes are all a magic ring of 6, sc2 in each to get 12, and slipstitch one to get it to round out properly.
The pigs nose is a little more complicated, because its a small oval shape - its using this theory http://www.suite101.com/content/the-cro ... ipe-a37936, but its basically trial and error, because its really small and kinda fiddly. I used a magic ring with 6 sc, and went from there, but the little felt circles help cover up lots of the dodgy crochet increases :)
The eyes are all 9mm safety eyes.

I can try and answer questions, but I really just used trial and error for it all, played about until it looked right!
