I've been trying forever to find a good method to making a pixel blanket in crochet that wouldn't make a monster blanket. There's a Bubble Bobble blanket I told a friend I would make but it would be HUGE if done with granny squares, then I saw Ellentje's Yoshi blanket [it's how I found this page] and got inspired. And then I saw this image in my RSS:

So I'm trying it out on Princess Peach here, first, because as you'll see from my mock-up it will have squares of 2inx2in, 4inx4in and in the warp tube 6inx6in. Before I start the massive Bubble Bobble blanket I wanted to make sure that the mixing 2x2, 4x4, and 6x6 squares to make up the blanket looks good.

The ruler is six inches. I started the crown to make sure that it would look right and am very happy to see it working out! Any tips on sewing the blocks together? Should I do that at the end or as I go along? I've never done a blocked blanket before.

This is pretty awesome and gives me a few ideas for quilts. I am anxious to see how it turns out.

I just did a granny square blanket and I did the sewing as I went along. I think it's better, because it "cuts" the work you have to do... A little bit of crochet, a little bit of sewing, back to crochet... Instead of having to sew everything at the end. Good luck with that, it's gonna look awesome!

Here's an update of what I had done before vacation. I did the squares for the left side of her skirt so far and some of the blue, we've been a little busy but I've been slowly working on it.
So far the strips are working out great, then I'll connect the strips to each other.

I just saw this topic now, browsing back through stuff I missed during the summer vacation. I'm glad you were inspired by my blanket and I absolutely love the image you chose to do!
I sewed the squares together by putting them on top of each other, face to face, and then stitching through the loops pair by pair, if you get what I mean. I had to pay extra attention to the corners (where four squares come together) to make sure no holes appeared. So I added a few more stitches on those points. I stitched them together in batches, so I made like 10 squares and them stitched them to all the others I already had assembled. This way I could really see the blanket come together, which kept me motivated. And as Rousseline said switching between the two tasks helps to make it less tedious.
I would love to see an update of this if you have the time.
