3D printing
I just joined a local maker space and now have access to a 3D printer!
I am pretty excited about this. As a learning how to use it project, I printed up a few buckles for the dress straps on a dress I am altering. There are a few calibration issues that mean you can't print big things at the moment, but I am looking for some cool ideas as to what nerdy crafty things I could use it for? I have already found a file to print out some gen 1 pokemon badges, and thought I could use it to make some nerdy shaped cookie cutters. Please let me know if you have any other cool ideas!

I am so jealous! I've been wanting the play with a 3D printer for so long. You'll have to make some fun stuff and give us a look. Heck, even make something boring to show us. 3D printers are awesome!

OMG I'm so jealous! I've been following 3D printing for a while now (nearly based my PhD on it) and it just looks so amazing! I'm sure you'll have tons of fun with it.

Re: 3D printing
Well here is a picture of the buckles I made sitting on top of my epic gen 2 pattern. I have this notion that dress straps should be wider than bra straps in order to provide coverage, which many manufactures seem to disagree with. So I made some the correct size.TigerLily wrote:Heck, even make something boring to show us.
I think I am going to try and make a Pi cookie cutter to give my Mum for mothers day, as she is a maths teacher

Got any other 3d plans? And for the curious, how much does it cost to print these things?

Re: 3D printing
So many good ideas! I havn't been back in a while as it has needed calibration and my attempt at printing a boulder badge failed a few times in a row. I think it has all been sorted out now, so I will have to go back soon.QueenBex wrote:OH POO MAIDENS! I AM SO JEALOUS!!!!!

As it is a kit printer, and not a fancy comercial one, intricate items might be tricky, or at least items with overhangs, as they require support structers to be printed, and I don't know how good the drivers are. (I feel like that sentance has too many commas, meh
